Question
Is this Hadith authentic?
Sayyiduna ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “When a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is related to you, you should think of the best [interpretation of it], think it to be the most guided, and the most righteous.”
Answer
Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 20)
‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain authentic.

(٢٠) – حدثنا محمد بن بشار قال: حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، عن شعبة، عن عمرو بن مرة، عن أبي البختري، عن أبي عبد الرحمن السلمي، عن علي بن أبي طالب، قال: «إذا حدثتكم عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم حديثا، فظنوا به الذي هو أهناه، وأهداه، وأتقاه».

هذا إسناد صحيح رجاله محتج لهم في الصحيحين.
