Question
I would like to know the reference for the following Hadith:
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“He who has two traits, Allah will record him to be among the grateful and the patient and if he does not possess these two habits, he will not be recorded by Allah among the grateful and patient;
He who sees his superior in Islam and follows him and sees one inferior in worldly things and then expresses his thanks to Allah, that out of His Mercy and Grace Allah has kept him in a better state, then Allah records him to be from among the grateful and patient.
And he who looks to his inferiors concerning religion and looks to one superior in worldly riches, and expresses sorrow for getting less, then Allah will not record him as amongst the grateful and patient.”

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

سنن الترمذي:
(٢٥١٢) – حدثنا سويد بن نصر قال: أخبرنا ابن المبارك، عن المثنى بن الصباح، عن عمرو بن شعيب، عن جده عبد الله بن عمرو، قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: «خصلتان من كانتا فيه كتبه الله شاكرا صابرا، ومن لم تكونا فيه لم يكتبه الله شاكرا ولا صابرا، من نظر في دينه إلى من هو فوقه فاقتدى به، ونظر في دنياه إلى من هو دونه فحمد الله على ما فضله به عليه كتبه الله شاكرا وصابرا، ومن نظر في دينه إلى من هو دونه، ونظر في دنياه إلى من هو فوقه فأسف على ما فاته منه لم يكتبه الله شاكرا ولا صابرا».
حدثنا موسى بن حزام، الرجل الصالح قال: حدثنا علي بن إسحاق قال: أخبرنا عبد الله بن المبارك قال: أخبرنا المثنى بن الصباح، عن عمرو بن شعيب، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نحوه، «هذا حديث غريب ولم يذكر سويد بن نصر في حديثه عن أبيه».
فتح الباري:
(٦٤٩٠) – وقد وقع في نسخة عمرو بن شعيب عن أبيه عن جده رفعه قال: «خصلتان من كانتا فيه كتبه الله شاكرا صابرا من نظر في دنياه إلى من هو دونه فحمد الله على ما فضله به عليه ومن نظر في دينه إلى من هو فوقه فاقتدى به وأما من نظر في دنياه إلى من هو فوقه فأسف على ما فاته فإنه لا يكتب شاكرا ولا صابرا».
