Question
Is this narration authentic?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“If people sit in a gathering in which they do not remember Allah nor send salutations on Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), such a gathering becomes a cause of dismay and loss for them. If Allah wills, He will punish them and if He wills, He will forgive them”
Answer
Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). He has declared the Hadith sound (hasan).

سنن الترمذي:
(٣٣٨٠) – حدثنا محمد بن بشار قال: حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي قال: حدثنا سفيان، عن صالح، مولى التوأمة، عن أبي هريرة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «ما جلس قوم مجلسا لم يذكروا الله فيه، ولم يصلوا على نبيهم، إلا كان عليهم ترة، فإن شاء عذبهم وإن شاء غفر لهم».
«هذا حديث حسن، وقد روي من غير وجه عن أبي هريرة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ومعنى قوله: ترة: يعني حسرة وندامة. وقال بعض أهل المعرفة بالعربية: «الترة هو الثأر».
