Question
Is the following Hadith authentic?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“You will fight against the Jews and you will kill them until even a stone would say ‘come here, O Muslim, there is a Jew, so kill him'”
There are other versions as well, including one that mentions the Gharqad tree being a Jewish tree that will not say anything
Answer
Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded the first Hadith. Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded both these narrations in his Sahih. The Hadith is therefore authentic.
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2925 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2921 and 2922)
Disclaimer: In principle, the signs of Qiyamah are ambiguous and nuanced and only Allah Ta’ala Knows their precise timing and exact application. One should certainly take heed from such Hadiths and signs, despite their application to specific events being open to interpretation.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
