Question
Is the following authentic?
Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “If Jannah and Jahannam were placed in front of me, it would not increase my faith.”
Answer
Imam Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullah) has cited this as the statement of ‘Amir ibn ‘Abdi Qays (rahimahullah), a Tabi’i. He further states that this is not a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) nor is it the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
‘Amir ibn ‘Abdi Qays (rahimahullah) said: “If the veils were to be removed [i.e. veils between myself and the Hereafter], my conviction would not increase.”

فيرتفعون من ذلك إلى الدرجة الثالثة: وهي يقين المكاشفة بحيث يصير المخبر به لقلوبهم كالمرئي لعيونهم. فنسبة الإيمان بالغيب حينئذ إلى القلب: كنسبة المرئي إلى العين. وهذا أعلى أنواع المكاشفة. وهي التي أشار إليها عامر بن عبد قيس في قوله: لو كشف الغطاء ما ازددت يقينا وليس هذا من كلام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولا من قول علي – كما يظنه من لا علم له بالمنقولات.
