Question
Is the following Hadith authentic?
Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When one of you is invited [to a meal], he must accept. If he is fasting, he should pray (i.e. make supplication for the host) and if he is not fasting, he should eat.”
Answer
Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith in his Sahih. It is therefore authentic.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When one of you is invited to a meal, he should accept the invitation. If he is fasting, he should make du’a [of forgiveness and blessings for the host], and if he is not fasting, he should partake of the food.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1431)
