ʿAbdullah ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah) Describes a Lowly Person

Question

Please provide the reference for this:

Imam ‘Abdullah Ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah) was asked:  “Who is the lowly person?” He said: “The one who mentions high prices in front of his guest.”

 

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr Ad Dinawri (rahimahullah) has recorded this as part of a longer statement of Imam ‘Abdullah ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah). The part in question is as follows:

Imam ‘Abdullah ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah) was asked: “Who is despicable?” He replied: “The one who mentions high prices [i.e. the rising cost of items] in the presence of a guest.”
