A Du’a for Removing Adversity

Question

What is the source of this du’a, and is it authentic?

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has said that once he went out with Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in a manner that his hand was Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)’s hands. He passed by a person who was dishevelled and worried. He asked, ‘what brought you to this condition?’ That person said, ‘sickness and poverty have done this to me.’ He said, ‘I am going to tell you a few words. If you recite these, your sickness and poverty will go away. The words were:

Tawakkaltu ‘alal hayyilladhi la yamutu alhamdulillahil ladhi lam yattakhiz waladan walam yakun lahu sharikun fil mulki walam yakun lahu waliyyum minazzuli wa kabbir hu takbira

تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لا يَمُوتُ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ،

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيُّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ، وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًا

 

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
