Question
Is the narration wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said Khubayb (radiyallahu ‘anhu) will be my close companion in Jannah and he is “Sayyidush Shuhada” [The leader of the martyrs] authentic?
Answer
This narration is cited in certain non Hadith books. However, Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) states that he has not come across [any basis/chain] for these narrations [lam ajidhu].

These narrations should therefore not be quoted until they can be sourced and verified.

حديث: «أن خبيبا صبر على الإكراه حتى صلب وسماه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سيد الشهداء» وقال فيه: «هو رفيقي في الجنة» الواقدي في المغازي في قصة قتل خبيب بن عدي بمكة من حديث نوفل بن معاوية الديلي قال: «لما صلى خبيب الركعتين حملوه إلى خشبة فأوثقوه رباطا ثم قالوا له ارجع عن الإسلام قال لا والله لا أفعل ولو أن لي ما في الأرض جميعا فذكر الحديث في قتلهم إياه».
وأصل قصة خبيب في الصحيح مطولة في البخاري ليس فيها أنه صلب ولا أنه أكره وأما قوله: «وسماه صلى الله عليه وسلم سيد الشهداء» فلم أجده وكذا قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «هو رفيقي في الجنة» لم أجده أيضا.
