A Pious Predecessor’s Analogy of the Sacred Months

Question

Is this a Hadith?
“The year is like a tree, Rajab is the month of its budding, Sha’ban is the month of its branching, and Ramadan is the month of its harvest, and the believers are its harvesters.”

Answer

Hafiz Ibn Rajab al Hambali (rahimahullah) has cited this as the statement of a pious predecessor, without naming him. The statement should be quoted as such and not as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

A pious predecessor said, “The year is like a tree. Rajab is the month in which its buds appear. Sha‘ban is the month in which its branches extend. Ramadan is the month of harvest, and the believers are those who harvest it.”
