Question
Kindly provide the reference for this statement:
Imam Malik (rahimahullah) said: “A person cannot be upright until he leaves aside what doesn’t concern him. When he does this, Allah is likely to grant him understanding and open his heart.”
Answer
Qadi ‘Iyad (rahimahullah) has cited this in Tartibul Madarik.
‘Abdullah ibnul Mubarak (rahimahullah) said that he heard Imam Malik (rahimahullah) saying: “A person will never attain true piety until he abandons that which does not concern him. Once he does so, Allah Ta’ala will open up his heart.”
(Tartibul Madarik, vol. 1, pg. 187)
