A Sunnah Du’a to Recite Before Sleeping

Question

Kindly inform me, where does this du’a appear and is it authentic?

Alhamdu lillahil ladhi at’amana wa saqana, wa kafana, wa awana, fakam mim man la kafiya lahu wa la mu-wiy.

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. It is therefore authentic.

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would retire to bed, he would recite the following du’a:

Translation: All praise belongs to Allah, who has fed us and given us drink, sufficed us, and granted us shelter. How many are there who have none to suffice them and none to provide them with shelter.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2715)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
