Question
Kindly provide the translation of this Hadith and its authenticity.
لا يحل لامرأة تسأل طلاق أختها لتستفرغ صحفتها فإنما لها ما قدر لها
Answer
Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with variations in the wording. It is therefore authentic.
Explanatory Translation:
“It is not allowed for a woman to ask a man whom she intends to marry to divorce his existing wife, or for a woman to ask her husband to divorce her co-wife, so that she may displace her and take her share of the maintenance, for she will, in any case, only receive what Allah Ta’ala has already decreed for her.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5152, 6601, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1408)

(٦٦٠١) – حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف، أخبرنا مالك، عن أبي الزناد، عن الأعرج، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا تسأل المرأة طلاق أختها لتستفرغ صحفتها، ولتنكح فإن لها ما قدر لها».
صحيح مسلم:
(١٤٠٨) – حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة ، حدثنا أبو أسامة ، عن هشام ، عن محمد بن سيرين ، عن أبي هريرة ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «لا يخطب الرجل على خطبة أخيه، ولا يسوم على سوم أخيه، ولا تنكح المرأة على عمتها، ولا على خالتها، ولا تسأل المرأة طلاق أختها لتكتفئ صحفتها، ولتنكح، فإنما لها ما كتب الله لها».
