Question
Is this Hadith authentic?
“It is better for the food to go to the dog than for you to eat it when you are already full..”
Answer
Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration as the statement of Luqman al Hakim and not as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).
Luqman al Hakim said: “O my beloved son, do not eat more than your fill, for if you were to give the excess to a dog, it would be better for you.”
(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 19539, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 5306)
The chain is weak, but the narration may be quoted as the statement of Luqman al Hakim.

(١٩٥٣٩) – أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، عن معمر، عن رجل، عن الحسن، أن لقمان، قال لابنه: يا بني، لا تأكل شبعا فوق شبع، فإنك إن تنبذه إلى الكلب خير لك، ويا بني لا تكونن أعجز من هذا الديك الذي يصوت بالأسحار وأنت نائم على فراشك.
