What is the reference for this narration?
من رضي بما قسم الله له، وسعه وبارك الله له فيه، ومن لم يرض لم يسعه ولم يبارك له فيه
Answer
Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of Imam Hasan Basri (rahimahullah).
Imam Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) said: “Whoever is content with what Allah has decreed for him, it will be enough for him and Allah will place blessing in it. Whoever is not content, it will neither be enough for him nor will it carry any blessing.”
(Ar Rida ‘anillah: 94)
Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun have recorded a similar narration as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). See it here.
