Question
Please verify the authenticity of this Hadith:
“Allah the Almighty revealed to Dawud (‘alayhis salam), ‘O Dawud fear me just as a predatory animal is feared”
Answer
‘Allamah ‘Iraqi (rahimahullah) has stated that he has not come across any basis for this [as a Hadith of Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam].
Imam Ghazali (rahimahullah) has indicated that this is sourced from Historical sources [Israiliyyat].

المغني عن حمل الأسفار:
(٣٨٥٠) – حديث: «إن الله تعالى أوحى إلى داود يا داود خفني كما يخاف السبع الضاري» لم أجد له أصلاً ولعل المصنف بإيراده أنه من الإسرائليات فإنه عبر عنه بقوله جاء في الخبر وكثيراً ما يعبر بذلك عن الإسرائيليات التي هي غير مرفوعة.
