Kindly provide the reference for this:
Fudayl (rahimahullah) said: “You consider yourself to be something while even an insect obeys Allah more than you do.”
Answer
This is recorded in Hilyatul Awliya.
Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad (rahimahullah) once addressed his son, saying, “Perhaps you think you hold some status, but in reality, even a dung beetle may be more obedient to Allah than you.”
(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 8, pg. 108)
It is worth noting that ‘Ali ibn Fudayl (rahimahumallah) was extremely pious and lived an ascetic life. Despite this, his father still offered him this reminder. He passed away before his father after hearing an ayah of the Quran that deeply affected him. He fell unconscious and subsequently passed away.

روى عن: عبد العزيز بن أبي رواد، وعباد بن منصور، وجماعة.
حدث عنه: سفيان بن عيينة، وأبوه، وموسى بن أعين، وجماعة حكايات، وأحمد بن عبد الله بن يونس اليربوعي….
قلت: خرج هو وأبوه من الضعف الغالب على الزهاد والصوفية، وعدا في الثقات إجماعا.
وكان علي قانتا لله، خاشعا، وجلا، ربانيا، كبير الشأن.
قال الخطيب: مات قبل أبيه بمدة من آية سمعها تقرأ، فغشي عليه، وتوفي في الحال.
