“Honour that is not based in knowledge will eventually find its way to humiliation.”
Answer
Imam Abu Bakr Ad Dinawri (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of Imam Ahnaf ibn Qays (rahimahullah).
Imam Ahnaf ibn Qays (rahimahullah) said: “Any honour that is not founded upon knowledge will ultimately end in disgrace.” [i.e. any position of power or social standing which is not built upon sound knowledge of Din will eventually lead to humiliation.]
