Question
Can you kindly mention the narration which mentions reciting Allahu Akbar forty times with the crashing of each wave as this is a means of forgiveness of sins?
Answer
Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) has cited this narration -without a chain-. He has referenced the narration to Fadailush Sham of Abul Hasan Ar Raba’i.
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever counts forty waves in the ocean while glorifying Allah with takbir [saying Allahu Akbar], Allah will forgive his sins, past and future. Indeed, the waves with takbir wash away sins entirely.”
