Question
Is this Hadith authentic?
“A person who doesn’t face trials in his life then there is a doubt in his Iman.”
Answer
I have not come across these words in a Hadith. This seems to be deduced from the following Hadith:
Sayyiduna Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) once asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), “Which people are tested most severely?” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, “The Ambiya, then the next best, then the next best. [i.e., the honourable noble ones who are closest to Allah Ta’ala]. A person is tested in accordance with [the strength/weakness] of his Din [Iman]. If he is firm on his Din, his trials will be more severe. If he is weak in his Din, then he is tried according to the strength of his Din. Man will continue being tested until he is left walking upon the earth free of sins.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2398 and Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4023)
Imam Tirmidhi and Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahumallah) have declared the Hadith authentic.

Note:
While the Hadith shows that stronger Iman may result in greater trials, it does not mean that a person who is not facing obvious difficulties has weak faith. Allah Ta‘ala tests His servants in different ways, and not every test is outwardly apparent.

سنن الترمذي:
(٢٣٩٨) – حدثنا قتيبة قال: حدثنا حماد بن زيد، عن عاصم ابن بهدلة، عن مصعب بن سعد، عن أبيه، قال: قلت: يا رسول الله، أي الناس أشد بلاء؟ قال: «الأنبياء ثم الأمثل فالأمثل، فيبتلى الرجل على حسب دينه، فإن كان دينه صلبا اشتد بلاؤه، وإن كان في دينه رقة ابتلي على حسب دينه، فما يبرح البلاء بالعبد حتى يتركه يمشي على الأرض ما عليه خطيئة»: هذا حديث حسن صحيح، وفي الباب عن أبي هريرة، وأخت حذيفة بن اليمان أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، سئل أي الناس أشد بلاء؟ قال: «الأنبياء، ثم الأمثل فالأمثل».
سنن ابن ماجه:
(٤٠٢٣) – حدثنا يوسف بن حماد المعني، ويحيى بن درست، قالا: حدثنا حماد بن زيد، عن عاصم، عن مصعب بن سعد عن أبيه سعد بن أبي وقاص، قال: قلت: يا رسول الله، أي الناس أشد بلاء؟ قال: «الأنبياء، ثم الأمثل فالأمثل، يبتلى العبد على حسب دينه، فإن كان في دينه صلبا اشتد بلاؤه، وإن كان في دينه رقة ابتلي على حسب دينه، فما يبرح البلاء بالعبد حتى يتركه يمشي على الأرض، وما عليه من خطيئة».

(٢٩٠١) – أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن الجنيد حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن عاصم عن مصعب بن سعد بن مالك عن أبيه قال: قلت: يا رسول الله أي الناس أشد بلاء قال: «الأنبياء ثم الأمثل فالأمثل يبتلى الرجل على حسب دينه فإن كان دينه صلبا اشتد بلاءه وإن كان في دينه رقة ابتلي على حسب دينه فما يبرح البلاء بالعبد حتى يتركه يمشي على الأرض وما عليه خطيئة».
