Is this Hadith authentic?
«من بات طاهرا بات في شعاره ملك فلم يستيقظ إلا قال الملك اللهم اغفر لعبدك فلان، فإنه بات طاهرا»
Answer
Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith and has declared it authentic.
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever goes to sleep in a state of wudu, an angel spends the night [close to him]. When he wakes up the angel says: “O Allah, forgive Your slave so-and-so, for he went to sleep in a state of wudu.”

(١٠٥١) – أخبرنا محمد بن صالح بن ذريح بعكبرا، حدثنا أبو عاصم أحمد بن جواس الحنفي، حدثنا ابن المبارك، عن الحسن بن ذكوان، عن سليمان الأحول، عن عطاء، عن ابن عمر، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «من بات طاهرا بات في شعاره ملك فلم يستيقظ إلا، قال الملك: اللهم اغفر لعبدك فلان، فإنه بات طاهرا».
