Question
Is this Hadith authentic?
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) says:
“Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would spend several nights in a row hungry and they would not find anything for dinner. Most of their bread was made from barley [without any flour]”
Answer
Imams Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and other Muhaddithun have recorded this narration. Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (hasanun sahih).

(٢٣٦٠) – حدثنا عبد الله بن معاوية الجمحي قال: حدثنا ثابت بن يزيد، عن هلال بن خباب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، قال: «كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يبيت الليالي المتتابعة طاويا وأهله لا يجدون عشاء وكان أكثر خبزهم خبز الشعير»: «هذا حديث حسن صحيح».
سنن ابن ماجه:
(٣٣٤٧) – حدثنا عبد الله بن معاوية الجمحي قال: حدثنا ثابت بن يزيد، عن هلال بن خباب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، قال: «كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يبيت الليالي المتتابعة طاويا، وأهله لا يجدون العشاء، وكان عامة خبزهم، خبز الشعير».
