Question
Is this Hadith sahih?
Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported:
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The reward of worship performed at a time of trials is like emigration to me.”
Answer
Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. The Hadith is therefore authentic.
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2948)
‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) explains that people generally become negligent at times of fitnah/trials. Therefore the reward is increased for those individuals who dedicate themselves to ‘ibadah in these times.

(٢٩٤٨) – حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا حماد بن زيد، عن معلى بن زياد، عن معاوية بن قرة، عن معقل بن يسار، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ح وحدثناه قتيبة بن سعيد، حدثنا حماد، عن المعلى بن زياد، رده إلى معاوية بن قرة، رده إلى معقل بن يسار، رده إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «العبادة في الهرج كهجرة إلي».
شرح النووي:
(٧٣٢٦) – قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم (العبادة في الهرج كهجرة إلي) المراد بالهرج هنا الفتنة واختلاط أمور الناس وسبب كثرة فضل العبادة فيه أن الناس يغفلون عنها ويشتغلون عنها ولايتفرغ لها إلا أفراد.
