Could you kindly explain what is جرح and تعديل in the science of Hadith?
Answer
The act of classifying a narrator as unreliable or weak is called: “Al-Jarh” (Criticism), while classifying him as reliable is known as “At-Ta’dil” (Justification). This aspect in the science of Hadith is called “ilmul Jarh wat Ta’dil.”
This science is of a very intricate nature and is the right of a specialist only.
